The price for Sheldon Richardson continues to drop, and while the Jets hate sending Richardson to their arch-rival, it’s the best they can get right now. Young depth at running back is an issue for the Jets, and adding Wisconsin star Corey Clement will certainly help that. Matt Forte will be back next year, as the Jets would lose $1 million if they cut him. At the same time, having a grizzled veteran like Forte to mentor Clement is nothing short of perfection.
I know that I talked about the versatility of O.J. Howard, imagine the versatility of Howard but with more production at the college level. Howard is a potential guy (along with David Njoku of Miami of Florida), but Leggett has the statistics to back it up.
With the First Pick
You become the red zone target when you have seven touchdowns on the year, and with a 258 pound frame, it’s hard to miss you or overthrow you. I think that the a safety net for Deshaun Watson deserves more credit, but the fact remains, tight ends aren’t as valued in the draft. In other years, the tight end position would take a hit, but this is probably the strongest tight end group in quite some time.
Leggett can in-line block, but doesn’t have the strongest position hand placement. He can be thrown around like a rag-doll when trying to block defensive ends, and isn’t fast enough to chip a blitzing linebacker. He is a mismatch in the passing game, but todays game requires you to be a blocker. The blocking part of the game could be taught by one of the leagues best, Jason Witten, and Leggett just so happens to be going to a team that has both players now.
I recently watched an E-60 video (the Bennett brothers), and Martellus Bennett said that Witten was one of the least helpful teammates when he first went to Dallas. I assume that his age is catching up to him, and he can’t continue being a pro-bowl type of player anymore. If Witten won’t assist in teaching Leggett, I know Dak Prescott can show the rookie the ropes, and I just think that Leggett needs to work on his blocking a little bit more.
