NFL Mock Draft 2.0: Week 16 Brings Massive Trading
And there you have it! After passing on a quarterback with their three first round picks, they finally take a quarterback. While I believe Cody Kessler can develop into a reliable NFL quarterback, the opportunity to take Deshaun Watson in the second round is unbelievable. The Browns hit a grand slam, home run with this draft thus far.
With the athleticism and escapability of Russell Wilson, Watson could finally be the guy going forward for the Browns. Cleveland does not need to start Watson on day one, in fact they probably shouldn’t. Let Cody Kessler start the beginning of the season, and if the coaches think Watson is ready they can throw him in.
It’s nice for the 49ers to get some young help in the secondary here. After drafting Trubisky in the first round, the addition of Jackson allows them to have a one-two punch that possesses the potential to build to units around for the future. Jackson is a fun corner to watch on film, doing a lot of things right with minimal disappointing plays against. He’ll make mistakes, but there’s a bright future if he’s put into the right situation. With this pick, it’s more upside for San Francisco.
The future of Jackson after suffering a lower body injury during the Rose Bowl is, however, a bit cloudy.
