3rd Round

3. player. 87. Cam Newton is getting hit way too often these days, regardless of whether the penalties are being called or not. That speaks to protection issues. Ever since the Super Bowl it’s been apparent that the Panthers have significant problems at the tackle position. Michael Oher and Mike Remmers are serviceable players but against top competition they’ve been repeatedly abused at times. This is something the team must try to correct.
Julie’n Davenport has become a sleeper in the scouting community. Despite playing for a small program at Bucknell, his size and athletic traits are creating a buzz. He has the definite look of an NFL left tackle. His pass protection is already solid and has room to improve. With more work with a top training staff, his ceiling is among the highest in the entire class. Taking a risk on him in the 3rd is worth it.
. OT. Bucknell. Julie'n Davenport
