4. Carolina Panthers (via CHI)

Derek Barnett . 4. player. 87. What in the world has happened to the Carolina Panthers. They were 15-1 and reached the Super Bowl last year. Now they’re sinking into one of the worst teams in the league. Is the hangover that bad? Well sometimes age and loss of certain personnel can have that effect. Injuries have also played a big part. The defense is where they’ve suffered the most damage as their front four hasn’t had the same juice it did last year. So they make the bold move to fix it.
This draft class is heavy on edge rushers and Derek Barnett is among the top three. He has 32 sacks in his college career and is a great fit for a 4-3 defensive scheme that the Panthers run. He has enough flexibility to bend the edge, can explode off the snap and shows the quickness to beat blockers with his hands. Size and power won’t be problems. Put him across from Kony Ealy with Kawann Short in the middle and that front is doing damage.
. DE. Tennessee
