124. Alex Smith has had a good run with the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s about to get them into the playoffs for the third time since 2013. A lot of quarterbacks in franchise history can’t say the same. He also ended the ugly streak of postseason games without a victory. That show save him a special place in fans’ hearts as well. Unfortunately the time has come for the team to think about finding new solutions. Smith will be 33-years old next year and is who he is. There will be no improving.
<p>Kansas City has a Super Bowl-caliber roster. Quarterback is the one area holding them back. They need a talent upgrade. Patrick Mahomes might have the most in the class. Critics will immediately say he’s a “backyard” quarterback who doesn’t play with fundamentals. He’s raw and inefficient too often. Not to mention trapped in a spread offense. Here’s the thing though.
