Having a reliable presence on the back end is something the San Diego Chargers probably took for granted when they had Eric Weddle there. Now they’re learning it’s no so easy to find quality safeties in the NFL. That is a big reason why their pass defense is so leaky these days. At present the Chargers are giving up 276 yards and 26 points per game. Both their starting safeties have combined for just two interceptions. That isn’t going to cut it if their intention is to challenge the best in the AFC.

Thankfully this draft class looks to be rich at the position. Otherwise there is no way Jamal Adams falls out of the top 10. The LSU product is a true two-way player. He is a big, ferocious hitter with a knack for sniffing out screen passes and misdirections. Ball carriers learn to locate where he is before the snap, otherwise they pay for it. Adams is also plenty capable in coverage. A good athlete with range to make a play on the ball while in the air. Teams try not to test him too often.
. S. LSU. Jamal Adams . 14. player. 13
