Los Angeles Rams at Detroit Lions, 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, FOX

It’s difficult to look at this matchup and make a definitive pick one way or another. You’d think that the Rams have the edge with a legitimate threat in Todd Gurley and an above-average defense, but the lack of an elite passing game gives them a worrisome outlook moving forward.

More from NFL Hot Takes

Case Keenum and his offense’s ability to create big plays through the air keeps L.A. from being a dark horse playoff contender, a fact that plays well in this one. The Rams are rather one-dimensional, not a great recipe to win on the road.

On the other side, Matthew Stafford’s early play for Detroit has been a bright spot in a relatively unexciting start to the year. The crushing blow of Ameer Abdullah has thrust Theo Riddick into a rather tricky situation, and his production led the organization to quickly snatch up Justin Forsett, who should see snaps early and often in his new colors.

If Detroit can fire up their running game and create a balanced momentum early, they have every opportunity to take home a win on their home turf on Sunday. But if the offensive line struggles and their front-seven fails to keep Gurley under control, we’re in for a scrappy game in which a coin flip to decide the winner would actually be a fair way to predict this.

Lions find a way to win again late, defeat Rams, 22-20.
