Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins, 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, FOX
There are so many fantastic games to be played at 1:00 this Sunday, it’s unfortunate that a few of them can’t be bumped to the 4:25 slot. This divisional clash certainly falls within that category.
This particular matchup sets up a rather large statement game for Washington, which could extend their winning streak to four games in front of their home crowd. Remember, their first two games (losses) came against Pittsburgh and Dallas, the latter game being a one-score affair. This Redskins team is no joke, proving over the past three weeks that their offense is steadily improving with Kirk Cousins at the helm.
Still Curtain
They haven’t been perfect, but it’s exciting to see the impressive on-paper pieces finally materialize and form a very formidable attack. They were tested against the Ravens last week and faltered – but this week’s matchup against Philly could be a jump-start to begin a convincing stretch.
Just that goal should be the focal point of the meeting rooms in Philadelphia this week – keep the Redskins offense from producing momentum-building plays. This Eagles defense is legitimate, providing a perfect backbone for Carson Wentz to cruise through the first quarter of the year.
To help counteract the struggling run game, Jim Schwartz’s guys have to win in the trenches and employ a physical style early and often.
Who wins this one? It’s anyone’s guess, really. If the Eagles play stout defense and hold onto the football as they should, it’s probably Philadelphia’s game to lose. But if Washington finds a way to create more magic at home, they could end up walking out of their stadium with a shiny 4-2 record on Sunday afternoon.
Eagles fight back late to knock off division-rival Washington, 24-22.
