Lack of competition

There is no doubt that 2017 has a chance to be a really rare occurrence in the NFL. The reason being that there might not be a lot of teams with a glaring need at the quarterback position. In examining the league, it’s been determined that there are nine besides the Bears with at least a modest amount of reasoning for drafting a quarterback early next year. However, just one of those nine can be considered an absolute lock. The rest are fringe possibilities at best.

Lock:

  • Browns

50/50:

  • 49ers (Gabbert/Kaepernick)
  • Cardinals (Palmer)
  • Saints (Brees)
  • Redskins (Cousins)
  • Jets (Fitzpatrick)

Long shots:

  • Giants (Manning)
  • Bills (Taylor)
  • Chargers (Rivers)

Then there is the likelihood that a number of these other teams, even if they do think quarterback, might not be picking as high as the Bears this year in the draft. Obviously this is based on widespread predictions they’ll finish somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7. So all told their odds are much better than normal years for them to come away with a quality talent.
