Prediction

The Volunteers entered the season as one of the darlings of college football. That entire notion was effected with their showing against Appalachian State. The talent is obvious as the Volunteers currently have their best roster in a long time. Quarterback Josh Dobbs has to learn to not be reckless in the pass game. I expect Butch Jones to feed Hurd and Kamara to take the ball of the hands of Dobbs.

Virginia Tech will keep things interesting for a while with an offense that is more athletic than they appear. Hodges and Ford can make life easier for a quarterback in Evans who can impact the game with his arm and his legs. The defense for the Hokies may not have many “stars” on the field but with Foster leading the charge, you can pretty much expect a physical tone from the unit.

The showdown will be in primetime at a venue that is known for it’s Nascar races. It is also a spot for Tennessee to make a statement after looking flat for four quarters against Appalachian State. Don’t be surprised by a scrappy contest between the two teams as the Volunteers will narrowly escape with a victory.

Prediction: Tennessee, 31-24 OT
