The greatest opening weekend in college football history is behind us and after having marquee matchup on top of marquee matchup, week two doesn’t have an intriguing menu of games.

One game that does stand out above the rest is a primetime matchup at the famous Bristol Motor Speedway between the 1-0 Virginia Tech Hokies and the 17th ranked Tennessee Volunteers, who are also 1-0.

This past weekend, the Volunteers entered the 2016 season with high hopes and even higher expectations but those expectations were suddenly dashed as the team needed overtime to defeat Appalachian State, 20-13. Head coach Butch Jones has himself a roster with some of the best talent in the SEC but during their showdown with Appalachian State, Jones once again gave his critics plenty of ammo by not having his talented squad focused not the task at hand.

For Virginia Tech, first-year head coach Justin Fuente opened up his tenure in Blacksburg with a 36-13 victory over Liberty. Filling the shoes of former Hokies head coach Frank Beamer is a task that can be insurmountable for some coaches. However, Fuente inherited a roster with solid talent  plus has the services of one of the best defensive coordinators in college football, Bud Foster.

Two good teams, an historic venue with a rare atmosphere, and with ESPN College Gameday on site, let’s preview the headliner during week two of the 2016 season.
