The Tennessee Titans have made some interesting moves at the wide receiver position this offseason, and the emergence of Tajae Sharpe has allowed it…

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably been wondering what in the world the Tennessee Titans have been doing at the wide receiver position the last month or so, and who in the heck is  Tajae Sharpe?

First, the Titans traded big wideout Dorial Green-Beckham for a backup offensive lineman of the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a somewhat shocking trade considering most people had pegged DGB as one of the top breakout candidates for the 2016 season with Marcus Mariota’s expected improvement.

Then, the Titans went and just flat out waived Justin Hunter, another player who has great size and was a second round pick in 2013.

With Green-Beckham and Hunter gone, the Titans’ depth chart at wide receiver changed drastically, thrusting Andre Johnson into a more prominent role, along with former Dolphins receiver Rishard Matthews and former first round pick Kendall Wright.

But the departure of those two young receivers seems most likely a play by the Titans to get more reps for a promising rookie named Tajae Sharpe out of UMass, one who is everyone’s new fantasy football ‘sleeper’ favorite.

Sharpe was considered a pretty average prospect coming out this past year, but scouts liked him for his sure hands and route running skills. Those have been on display early on for the Titans, who apparently saw enough in practices and preseason to determine that he can have a significant impact in this offense as a rookie.

Marcus Mariota seems very confident in the young receiver, even going so far as to say he makes things easy on him:

“He is a very versatile athlete. He has done a lot for us already and he gets great separation in and out of his routes. We are going to continue to expect these things out of him.”

As Mariota’s development continues, his ability to make players like Sharpe better will loom large for the success of this Titans offense. It looks like Tennessee may have a nice young duo here.
