It’s time to face facts. Robbie Gould has lost his edge. The once “Good as Gould” money kicker is a shadow of his former self. His 2015 season was one of the worst of his career and so far his start to 2016 hasn’t looked much better. He missed two extra points in the preseason finale alone and has missed a number of kicks in practice that he always used to make. This is the sign of an aging kicker (he’ll be 35 in December). The time has come for a change.

Utah kicker Andy Phillips seemed like the logical target based on early draft projections. He went 23-of-27 in 2015 and has missed just one extra point during his entire college career. He may not be known for distance with a maximum of 53 yards, but in the swirling winds of Soldier Field it’s more about accuracy than anything else. He should be able to handle that.
. K. Utah.
