Houston Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler was efficient in a very good looking preseason week three dress rehearsal. Will it carry into regular season?

Houston Texans fans have to be brimming with excitement after the team’s recent preseason victory over the Arizona Cardinals, especially the play of quarterback Brock Osweiler.

As much as we have joked about Osweiler all offseason, it was a reasonable risk for a team like the Texans to take and it looks early on like it’s going to pay off.

Of course, it’s a preseason game, and a lot of times people want to discredit performances for that fact. I think there’s a lot to like here from Osweiler and Texans fans have reason to be thrilled about this performance.

The first throw in this game that I really like came on a 4th-and-3 where Osweiler steps into the pocket, avoids the pressure and makes an athletic play to get outside of the tackle box and wait for Braxton Miller to win a one-on-one battle.

Miller wasn’t ‘wide open’ by any means, and Osweiler makes a strong throw to move the chains and keep the Texans in business offensively. They ultimately scored a touchdown on a Lamar Miller run play.

More from NFL Mocks

There are plenty of shallow cross routes Osweiler hits throughout this tape, but he also takes more shots downfield than we’re used to seeing from him. There are a couple of deep balls that he throws to rookie receiver Will Fuller that are absolutely on the money, including a pass that Fuller drops that likely would have gone for six.

The way this Texans offense is able to stretch the field with all the speed they have acquired this offseason is exciting.

The other throw that I really like in this clip is where Osweiler lets the routes develop downfield and he fires an absolute strike to DeAndre Hopkins. He did a good job of taking advantage of what the defense was giving him while also taking necessary and smart shots down the field and putting the ball in a perfect place.

Of course, it’s just the preseason, but these are important reps and regardless of the situation or competition, this is good stuff from Osweiler.
