After their lackluster preseasons, the Philadelphia Eagles are starting to cut some playmakers

Wide receiver is a position the Philadelphia Eagles desperately tried to improve over the offseason. Two moves they made to add depth at the position came in free agency, signing Chris Givens and Rueben Randle.

Fast-forward just a couple of months, and both wide receivers are looking for jobs.

Philadelphia cut both Randle and Givens following Saturday nights preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, which the Eagles won 33-23.

Both Givens and Randle combined for three catches against Indianapolis on as many targets. Randle was originally expected to be a lock, but a lack of effort on the field ultimately led to his release.

Givens, who played with quarterback Sam Bradford in St. Louis, made just one catch for the Eagles. He was expected to compete for the final wide receiver job, with his deep-threat speed giving him a boost. Philadelphia signed him to a one-year, $840,000 deal over the offseason.

The former New York Giant Randle had just five catches for 26 yards in his three preseason appearances.

With Randle and Givens officially gone, the Eagles are down to nine wide receivers on their roster. With Jordan Matthews, Dorial Green-Beckham and Nelson Agholor locked in, head coach Doug Pederson has some tough decisions coming up.

Former Oregon product Josh Huff was on the roster bubble heading into Saturdays game, but a strong performance seems to have pushed him back into the conversation.

Undrafted free agent Paul Turner will look to be the fifth option for the Eagles at wide receiver. The former Louisiana Tech receiver has nine catches for 99 yards in three games, including a stunning one-handed grab against the Steelers.

Cayleb Jones was also expected to compete after going undrafted, but has yet to show consistency on the football field.

The Eagles have 81 players on their roster, and must cut that number down to 75 by 4 p.m. Tuesday.
