#4:  Safety

Of all the positions on the list, this one might be the most in flux. The Bears have devoted a considerable number of resources to safety in recent years. Adrian Amos was their 5th round pick in 2015. Harold Jones-Quartey was a waiver wire pickup. Deon Bush is a 4th round rookie and DeAndre Houston-Carson a 6th round rookie. It’s apparent that Pace and the coaches value that spot quite a bit. So far though the results are more or less mixed.

Amos looked decent last season in terms of his ability to avoid giving up big plays and taking proper angles to the football. At the same time his lone highlight was a sack of Brock Osweiler in a game against Denver. No interceptions or forced fumbles. Jones-Quartey made more such plays in one game but remains largely a mystery. Bush is a hitter but hasn’t begun to elevate his game yet. Houston-Carson injured his neck and remains in limbo. Like it or not, the Bears (still) have no definitive answers at safety.
