31. Pittsburgh Steelers

55. It seems like every investment the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to make in their secondary have met with misfortune the past couple seasons. Hopes are high that 1st round pick Artie Burns can give them a much-needed boost at cornerback. What he won’t be able to fix is their underwhelming safety position that hasn’t been the same since Troy Polamalu retired a few years ago. Though they may have relative stability, the playmaking has all but dried up with Robert Golden and Mike Mitchell as the projected starters.
That should be next on the agenda to fix. Perhaps 2nd round pick Sean Davis will be a step in the right direction but that’s not enough reason to ignore safety early in 2017. Johnathan Ford is a name that isn’t high on a ton of lists right now. Part of that is because he has been handcuffed by a series of coaching and scheme changes at Auburn that continue to stunt his growth. Yet he’s found ways to be productive regardless. He had 118 tackles, a sack and two interceptions in 2015. With plenty of size and versatility, this is somebody the Steelers could really turn into something good.
. S. Auburn.
