18. New York Giants

On the surface it looks like the edge rush for the New York Giants is taken care of, but there are some lingering concerns worth mentioning. Remember that Jason Pierre-Paul is still an unknown who is under contract for just one year. Olivier Vernon had a solid 2015 but has never produced double digit sacks in his career. Owa Odighizuwa has the most upside but needs to prove his mettle when the real games are being played. It looks good on paper. That doesn’t make their situation a comfortable one.
A big reason why they haven’t had enough success with their defensive front lately is because they’re not investing in it. JPP was their 1st round pick in 2010. Since then they have not taken an edge rusher above the 3rd round in the past five years. The time is right for that to change. Derek Barnett would be a terrific choice. His size and scheme history make him a great fit for the Giants system. He’s big enough to handle duties as a run-stopper but doesn’t lose his explosion and quickness as a pass rusher.
. DE. Tennessee. Derek Barnett . 18. player. 31
