2017 NFL Trade Market: Garoppolo Leads Strong QB Crop
By Erik Lambert
Tom Savage
The arrival of Brock Osweiler crushes any further idea that the Houston Texans had a long-term development plan in mind for Tom Savage. A former 4th round pick for the team, the former Pitt standout hasn’t done enough during his first two years to warrant consideration for the starting job there but his talent is enough to wonder whether another team might feel different. His strong start to the preseason (167 yards and 2 TDs) show he might be stepping in the right direction.
Odds are the Texans wouldn’t get much in return if they did deal him but with Brandon Weeden there as a veteran backup there is no reason to think it’s inadvisable. Savage has no future in Houston. At least none that involved achieving his dream of becoming a starter in the NFL. Odds are there is at least one team out there who believes he can do more. It’s just a matter of finding the right fit.
