Bryce Petty

The name everybody in New York forgot. First the talk was about Ryan Fitzpatrick and his contract saga with the Jets. Then it was about Geno Smith and how he was the favorite to replace him. Soon it shifted to Christian Hackenberg and his potential future as the eventual heir apparent. During that time almost nobody offered an idea of what this meant for Bryce Petty, who was a 4th round pick of the team in 2015. He served to remind people that he won’t be ignored during this preseason with the third-most passing yards of any quarterback including two completions of over 40 yards.

The sticking point with Petty wasn’t about talent. Everybody agreed the former Baylor product had the size, the arm and the legs to make it at the NFL level. It was a question of health (had a back injury in college) and the ability to run a pro-style offense. Seems he’s answering those questions one after another. To a point where the Jets might be forced into a decision on whether to cut somebody else to keep him or perhaps deal him elsewhere for extra draft picks.
