Top Cornerback Prospect Jalen Tabor Suspended from Florida
Florida’s star cornerback Jalen Tabor and tight end C’yontai Lewis were suspended from team activities and are expected to miss the Gators’ season opener on September 3rd against UMass.
Tabor’s suspension was not drug related and was reportedly over a serious altercation.
Head Coach Jim McElwain announced both of the suspensions this morning:
"Both C’yontai and Jalen will not be involved with the team or practice due to behavior that is not acceptable, by no means are these bad guys and yet the consequences have been handed down. We will not look the other way when it comes to breaking of team policies."
Tabor started alongside first round pick Vernon Hargreaves III last season and tallied 40 tackles, four interceptions, and 14 pass breakups last season. Tabor was an All-SEC selection and was ranked No. 20 in ESPN’s CFB Rank earlier this month.
Tabor is considered one of, if not the, top prospect at corner for the 2017 NFL Draft class. He has all of the physical tools to succeed at the next level and the ball skills that NFL teams love. He’s able to line up outside, in the slot, and he even lined up over tight ends.
C’yontai Lewis was a reserve tight end for Florida last season. He caught four passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns behind starter DeAndre Goolsby. The 6’4″ sophomore figured to play a larger role in the Gators’ offense this season, but will not do so the first week of the season.
