Every year is different in pro football, and that’s why the 2016 NFL Power Rankings will almost certainly be nothing like the ones from last year.

The first week of preseason is almost in the books. It’s never the best idea to base such rankings off which teams win or lose this time of year but examining player performances based off initial examinations can give some insight. Is the depth at this position as bad as feared? How far along is this rookie? Does that veteran look healthy enough to regain his old form? These are questions that must be asked in order to determine proper rankings outside of actual team record.

Also as will be the case almost every week moving forward, the rankings are going to change. That is what they do. So it’s best to make a mental note of where every team sits right now. A couple months down the road at team sitting at #29 may very well end up #9. That is the beautiful nature of the NFL. Winners can often come from out of nowhere. In the meantime, here is the lineup of 32 as it stands through mid-August.
