Hard Knocks with the Rams: Five Reasons it’s Boring
Jeff Fisher
Fans of Hard Knocks have grown accustomed to loud personalities from the head coaches featured. We’ve seen that with Rex Ryan, Bill O’Brien, and Herm Edwards when their respective teams were featured.
Additionally, we are coming off of Amazon’s All or Nothing, where Bruce Arians and his multitude of F-bombs kept us awake and laughing.
Jeff Fisher on the other hand is the complete opposite of Arians, Ryan, and the other coaches given airtime over the past 11 years. He’s a quiet guy who we haven’t seen dig into his team, or provide any inspirational speeches like Arians on the first day of camp.
Fisher’s attitude was, “well we’re here. Try not to go 7-9 again.” Arians, amid the F-bombs, laid out one of the best introduction speeches ever brought to life. It was intense and highly motivating.
You saw absolutely no fire or sense of leadership from Fisher, who may only still be with the Rams because of his past experiences with relocating franchises. Nothing on the field showing him getting involved with drills or instructing players. Maybe that is to come, but the lack of it hurt his image.
When Fisher called quarterback Nick Foles to inform him of his release, the call was extremely awkward. While releasing a player you traded for just a year ago is never easy, Fisher danced around the obvious and stuttered through the process.
If you go back and watch “All or Nothing” with Bruce Arians and the Arizona Cardinals, a practice squad player is cut for parking in the wrong place, one day after Arians rips the team about someone parking in his spot.
Simply put, Jeff Fisher is not entertaining on or off the field, making for boring TV.
