Birds of a feather always stay together

After the Seattle Seahawks snatched the coveted Russell Wilson away from then-Eagles head coach Andy Reid in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Reid turned to Arizona quarterback Nick Foles.

Years later, Big Red turns to Foles once again in Kansas City. According to multiple media reports, the Kansas City Chiefs will sign quarterback Nick Foles to back-up Alex Smith in 2016. Kansas City lost back-up Chase Daniel after he followed his former offensive coordinator Doug Pederson to the Philadelphia Eagles over the offseason. The Chiefs were left with former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray and fifth round pick Kevin Hogan out of Stanford.

Foles was granted his release by the Los Angeles Rams after the team drafted Jared Goff with the number one overall pick, and failed to find a suitable trade partner for Foles.

Multiple teams reportedly contacted Foles after his release earlier in the week, including the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings, according to Ian Rapoport. Dallas recently lost back-up Kellen Moore to a broken ankle, and has rookie Dak Prescott penciled in behind Tony Romo.

With Michael Vick leading the way in Philadelphia, Foles initially got a limited amount of starts under Andy Reid and Chip Kelly. After Vick went down with injuries, Foles cemented himself as the starter in Philadelphia.

During his first season under Chip Kelly, Foles had a historically dominant season. He threw 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions as he led all NFL quarterbacks in QBR. He earned his first career Pro Bowl selection, and earned the games’ MVP award.

After injuries limited Nick Foles to just eight games the following season, Chip Kelly traded him to the St. Louis Cardinals along with a second round draft pick in exchange for former first overall pick Sam Bradford and a mid-round draft pick.

Foles would make 11 starts for the Rams during their final year in St. Louis, but was benched late in the season.

Not only will Foles be a reliable back-up to Alex Smith, he will bring good character and leadership to the locker room. You can never have too much of that in the NFL these days.

Kansas City has an off day Thursday, giving Foles time to come in and get his hands on the playbook. The schemes will be similar to what he ran in Philadelphia under Reid in 2012, so it should not take too long for him to get acclimated to the offense.
