Bills Sign Running Back Reggie Bush to One-Year Deal
After a visit and physical, running back and former Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush has signed with the Buffalo Bills. The deal is for one-year, and is laced with incentives. The team expects him to practice tomorrow after passing his physical.
Bush, 31-years-old, tore his ACL last season while playing for the 49ers after slipping on concrete at the Edward Jones Dome in Saint Louis mid-game. Bush played in five games last year and only had eight carries for 28 yards.
Bush figures to possibly see playing-time early in the year, and provide depth following backup running back Karlos Williams’ four game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
He’ll back up LeSean McCoy (who is awaiting to hear if he will receive a suspension despite not being charged after a Philadelphia bar fight) and will compete for time with Jonathan Williams and Mike Gillislee.
This will be Bush’s fifth team as he enters his 11th year in the league. He’s rushed for 5,493 yards, 35 touchdowns, and but has had issues fumbling through out his career, as he’s fumbled 27 times. He’s also showcased his versatility by catching 470 passes for 3,508 yards, and 18 touchdowns.
This is a low risk, possibly high reward move for the Bills if Bush can stay healthy and provide them with a versatile spell running back on a short, cheap contract. Having him mentor young backs such as Karlos Williams will also come in handy.
