The hiring of Odom occurred in early December after longtime head coach Gary Pinkel resigned due to health related issues. Odom was a linebacker at the University of Missouri from 1996 to 1999 and is seventh all-time in school history in total tackles with 362. The administration decided to call on a former player as well as administrator and assistant coach. Odom knows the program, the town, and most importantly, he knows what it takes for the university to succeed.

Soon after Odom’s hiring, the coach tabbed former Heisman trophy runner-up and national champion quarterback, Josh Heupel, to be the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Ryan Walters was in charge of the safeties last season and is now appointed as co-defensive coordinator along with DeMontie Cross, another Missouri grad. Odom retained the services of longtime wide receivers coach Andy Hill, who has been an assistant at the school for 20 seasons. Another holdover, Cornell Ford, has been an assistant at Missouri for cornerbacks and safeties since 2001 but will now switch gears and coach the running backs.
