Titans Sign Veteran WR Andre Johnson to Two-Year Deal
The Tennessee Titans signed wide receiver Andre Johnson, the seven time pro bowler and 12 year veteran to a two-year contract. Johnson spent 11 years with the Houston Texans, and one with the Colts. He has career totals of 1,053 receptions, 14,100 yards, and 68 touchdowns.
After two seasons in which he saw his production decrease steeply, he will take his talents to a team in need of receiving help in Tennessee. He finished the past season, which he had multiple quarterbacks due to injuries, with 41 receptions, for 503 yards, and four touchdowns as a secondary target.
Despite the drop offs, he is still a veteran with a very reliable pair of hands, and crisp route running ability. He isn’t the go to guy anymore, but can provide a solid secondary option.
This change of scenery will be with the third AFC South team he has played for in as many seasons. The 35-year-old receiver will make a big impact for a receiving corp lacking star power. Tight end Delanie Walker was the team’s leading receiver with 94 receptions, 1,088 yards and six touchdowns. The next highest receiver, Dorial Green-Beckham had 32 receptions, for 594 yards, and four scores.
His experience will be a big boost for a Titans receiving room that needs veteran presences with the young talent that is currently there. Johnson’s not necessarily a game breaker at this state in his career, but he will have a positive influence on a team in the locker room with his veteran presence and willingness to help younger players.
