Former Nittany Lion Sam Ficken is getting his shot at playing in the NFL

While much of the excitement surrounding the Penn State Pro Day was related to Christian Hackenberg and Carl Nassib, former Nittany Lion kicker Sam Ficken worked on the side of the practice field, showing off his leg to multiple NFL teams.

Among those teams keeping an eye on him were the Jacksonville Jaguars. On Monday, Jacksonville signed Ficken to their 90 man roster after working him out in June.

Here is my interview with Ficken following his workout at the Penn State Pro Day just a few months ago.

Ficken became a fan favorite at Penn State after making multiple clutch kicks in games such as the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankees Stadium and the Croke Park Classic in Dublin, Ireland.

He spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, but failed to make their preseason roster.

Jacksonville currently has kicker Jason Myers on their roster, but he missed seven point-after attempts in 2015. He hit 86.7% of his field goal attempts, and hit a 58 yard field goal in Miami. This gives Ficken a strong chance to make their preseason roster, thus creating tape for other NFL teams to watch should he not make the Jaguars 53-man roster.

Ficken has been traveling to workouts since not being drafted last season out of Penn State. While he was not preparing for a call from NFL teams, he was working in State College at the local Merrill Lynch wealth management office. Ficken graduated with a degree in finance from Penn State.
