College Football Preview: South Carolina Gamecocks
Coaching Staff
Bringing in Muschamp was definitely a move that many, even in Columbia, didn’t expect. His defensive coaching resume is quite impressive with excellent results at almost all of his stops, even at the University of Florida. So while the hire gives the football program a guy who can recruit and construct productive defenses, the jury is still out on if Muschamp can lead an entire football program to the land of consistent success. Former Byrnes HS (S.C.) head coach Bobby Bentley now takes over as the running backs coach. Those familiar with the high school football scene in the state are familiar with what Bentley has done as a head coach.
Kurt Roper was brought in to be a co-Offensive Coordinator and is another name that has past experience working side-by-side with Muschamp. Tabbed to be the defensive coordinator, Travaris Robinson has history of being a well-respected recruiter and defensive backs coach as Robinson has coached the likes of Vernon Hargreaves III, Jalon Tabor, and Matt Elam. Kudos to Muschamp for bringing back Shawn Elliott as Offensive Line coach as Elliott is one bright coach with an equally bright future.
