College Football Preview: Georgia Bulldogs
15 seasons of Mark Richt with 145 regular season wins and a 9-5 bowl record wasn’t enough for the Bulldogs faithful and the chain of command at the University of Georgia. The program decided to move on from the longtime coach and bring in one of their own. The hiring of former Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart to takeover the head coaching gig at UGA was quite interesting. As stated, Smart is a Bulldogs alumni and inherits a program that still seems to be on “the cusp” in the eyes of college football writers and analysts. Without a doubt, Georgia is one of the top jobs in the entire country with a massive fan base, bountiful recruiting grounds, consistent televised coverage, plus an established prestige.
Entering the 2016 season, Smart has a roster that is equally full of talent as it is full of questions. Can he find stable name at the QB spot? What is the status of running back Nick Chubb? Who will replace wideout Malcolm Mitchell, who’s third all-time at UGA in receptions? Can Smart insert his defensive coaching prowess on the current state of defenders? Are the Dawgs the favorite to win the SEC East? Can Smart handle the expectations given to him?
As you can tell, things will get quite interesting in Athens during the 2016 season. Whether Smart is ready or not, the pressure is there ready for him to not only win at Georgia but to have their name amongst the teams in contention for the College Football Playoff. Here is the 2016 preview for the Georgia Bulldogs.
