Wayne Gallman, RB, Clemson: 2017 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Wayne Gallman is the unsung hero of the Clemson Tigers offense.
While being overshadowed by the heroics of teammate Deshaun Watson, Gallman put up over 1,500 yards on the ground and was able to find the endzone 13 times in 2015. His draft stock undoubtedly rose in the later games of the year, and he looks to be one of the top running backs available for the 2017 NFL Draft.
Name: Wayne Gallman
Position: Running Back
School: Clemson
Height: 6’1
Weight: 215
2015 Season Stats: 1,514 rushing yards, 5.4 yards per carry, 13 touchdowns; 22 receptions, 226 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown
What to like
Gallman is the type of back the coaches talk about when they say “keep your feet moving”. On nearly every run that Gallman has you can see him chopping his feet and trying to earn as much yardage as he’s physically able to grab.
Gallman has both good size and speed for the position. While he’s not a burner, he does have enough speed to beat out linebackers and safeties in a foot race. His best asset doesn’t come from his physical ability, but his mental. Gallman has great vision and can find the seam at the line of scrimmage.
He also has a great understanding of when to accelerate through the hole and how to off balance opponents in the open field. His vision and technique are among the best for the 2017 draft class.

While Gallman possesses great vision and decision-making, there are times when he gets overly ambitious, and ends up missing out on additional yardage. Speed isn’t everything, but in the NFL the competition plays faster and with a different twitch than the college game.
Gallman will probably be in the 4.5-4.7 range when the combine results come out, and it may be in his best interest to add bulk to his lanky frame.
Outlook
The Clemson Tigers will be relying heavily on Wayne Gallman once again in 2016. Arguably the nations most underrated running back, Gallman has a chance to not only get his team back into the National Championship game, but also make a case for himself in being one of the first running backs selected next year.
With Deshaun Watson at quarterback, it’s hard to see Gallman as a back who eclipses more than what he was able to last year. However, that doesn’t mean that his play on the field won’t be recognized for the Tigers success. Expect Gallman to have another well-produced 2016 season.
