Coaching Preview: Additions and Subtractions

Perhaps the biggest weakness on the Tigers last season was their receiving corps. It wasn’t necessarily because talent was lacking at the position as much as it was the offense’s inability to incorporate anything that resembled a creative downfield threat.

Thus, LSU elected to bring in receivers coach Dameyune Craig to inject some life into a previously stagnate passing attack. He’ll have more than enough talent to work with in Malachi Dupre and Travin Dural.

On the other side of the ball, the team saw former defensive coordinator Kevin Steele leave to take the same job at Auburn, so Les Miles hired Dave Aranda away from Wisconsin.

Aranda is an up-and-comer in college football and will implement his “multiple” defense that’ll include 3-4 formations. He notably keyed a unit in Madison that led the FBS in points allowed per game (13.7) and was second in yards allowed per game (268.5).

Though a departure prompted the hiring of Aranda, LSU may have found an upgrade at defensive coordinator.
