Green Bay Packers:  The Brett Favre trade

Ron Wolf is in the Hall of Fame as a GM for a reason. The guy understood what good football players look like and showed no fear when it came to acquiring them. By far his boldest move ever came in 1992. Though the Green Bay Packers had Don Majkowski at the time, a proven starter Wolf still felt new blood was need at the quarterback position. In a surprise move, he convinced the Atlanta Falcons to deal second-year man Brett Favre. Wolf had eyes for him ever since the draft, which explained why he willingly gave up the 19th overall pick in the trade. This despite the fact Favre had rarely played and was himself originally a 2nd round pick.

That was how strongly Wolf felt about what he could do for the franchise. Hence why he got paid the big bucks. After an injury to Majkowski that very season, Favre stepped in and would assume the role of starter for the next 15 years without missing a single game. In that span he set every conceivable passing record, won three-straight MVP awards and got the franchise its third Super Bowl title. He also brought some of the fun back into football, something that makes both him and the Packers revered to this day.
