NFC South: Prediction For Each Team
New Orleans Saints: Passing defense will improve to a top 15 ranking
The Saints were horrific in 2015 as a secondary. Allowing 10 games of 300+ passing yards and ending the season with a final ranking of 31st overall with an average of 284 passing yards per game. The Saints were even tied for 26th overall in defensive interceptions with just nine.
A bright spot was cornerback Delvin Breaux who led the team with three interceptions. Outside of Breaux, the Saints had very little to hang their hat on in the passing department. A return of veteran Keenan Lewis will help tremendously as Lewis was limited to just seven games in 2015 due to hernia injury plus the debut of 2015 third-rounder P.J Williams will add more size and skill to the secondary as well. Williams missed the entire 2015 season due to a torn hamstring.
The Saints big free agent signing in 2014 of safety Jarius Byrd hasn’t quite paid off just yet for the with only one interception in two seasons in New Orleans. To be fair, Byrd has been quite dinged up during his time in New Orleans. Having Byrd, Lewis, and Williams all healthy and on the field at once refines the team’s passing defense and will greatly help the team improve in that facet.
