Early NFL Draft scouting: LSU WR Travin Dural
Early 2017 NFL Draft scouting report: Taking a look at LSU wide receiver Travin Dural, one of the fastest players in the country…
The LSU Tigers football program has long been a pipeline for NFL talent, and that will not change in 2016/17. Wide receiver Travin Dural hopes to have a big senior season and prove that he’s more than just a deep threat as NFL scouts will again flock to the state of Louisiana for the next best thing.

Top NFL Traits
What’s obvious about Dural’s game is his speed. He’s able to get separation in a hurry because he’s able to blow by defensive backs. That’s been evidenced as well by his having averaged 19 or 20 yards per catch every year of his career so far in college.
He has 12 touchdowns in his three seasons on just 72 catches, averaging a touchdown every six grabs. He also has the longest touchdown catch in LSU history at 94 yards.
There’s no doubt the big play is Travin Dural’s specialty, and he’ll have plenty of experience at LSU by the time he heads to the NFL. He took a medical redshirt in 2012, and is entering his fifth year overall with the program. Born in 1993, it’s fair to wonder if at the time of his getting drafted in 2017, teams will take into consideration the fact that he will be 24 years of age during his rookie year.

NFL Player Comparison
In terms of what he’s proven to bring to the table so far, Dural reminds me a bit of Ashley Lelie, the former first round pick out of Hawai’i who had some good years with the Denver Broncos as a guy who could really track the ball well downfield.
I don’t know that Dural is going to be that productive as an NFL player, but he’ll be someone who can stretch the field and blow the top off of defenses at times.
Bottom Line
I think there’s a place for Dural in the NFL, but I also believe he needs to add some bulk and be a more complete receiver in order to have longevity to his game. Hopefully we’ll see some all-around improvements in his senior season with the Tigers.
