NFC East: Prediction For Each Team
New York Giants: WR Odell Beckham Jr. will not have more than 90 catches
Some may view this as a “negative” but in actuality, it may be something Giants fans/enthusiasts will embrace with open arms.
Beckham led the Giants with 96 catches last season and there is no doubt that Beckham is at worst a top five receiver in today’s game. However, there is clear potential with this Giants offense and it rests in the hands of veteran Victor Cruz and rookie Sterling Shepard. Having the three pass catchers on the field in 2016 will give the Giants a scary offense. The skill set of all three are similar in some aspects and can keep defenses on their toes at all times. Cruz missed 10 games in 2014 and the entire 2015 season but is expected back in 2016. His presence will take double teams off of Beckham which is scary in it’s own right of Beckham seeing a lot more single coverage.
Shepard himself is a technician at the slot position. Shepard totaled 233 receptions during his four seasons at the University of Oklahoma and is a smooth receiver with hands of glue and sharp route running. Beckham will more than likely be the leading receiver in New York but the presence of Cruz and Shepard can cut into Beckham’s catch totals and provide a receiver trio that will light up the scoreboard.
