By 1993 the New England Patriots were an absolute train wreck. They’d endured one of the most painful stretches of losing in recent memory and were in desperate need of somebody who could turn their fortunes around. The hope was that getting a quarterback they could build around would be the ticket. So they settled on a tall kid from Washington State named Drew Bledsoe. It didn’t take long to realize it was the right decision.

By his second season Bledsoe was among the best in the league. From 1994 to 1997 he made three Pro Bowls, produced three winning seasons and got the Patriots to the Super Bowl. Though nowadays people remember him as the man Tom Brady replaced, the fact is New England didn’t learn how to win until Bledsoe got there and without him, they wouldn’t have at least one of their Super Bowl titles. His ability to come off the bench to win the 2001 AFC championship was the final chapter in his time with the team.
. QB. Washington State. Drew Bledsoe . 25. player. 47
