player. 44. This was one of those rare cases that a player was so desired for not just his talent but also his marketability that a team actually traded up to the #1 spot to get him. That is exactly what the Atlanta Falcons did in 2001, jumped up from 5th in a deal with San Diego to draft Michael Vick. Almost right away it became clear they’d gotten somebody who could make pro football the biggest thing in Georgia.

Vick went to the Pro Bowl in just his second season as a starter. What made him stand out though wasn’t his arm, strong as it was but his incredible mix of speed and agility. Defenses had nightmares trying to corral him whenever he decided to scramble. In 2006 he set the NFL record with 1,039 rushing yards in a season. He would get the team to the playoffs twice during his time there, reaching the NFC championship in 2004. If not for an ugly stint in jail for dog fighting and failing to win a Super Bowl, he might be seen in a different light today.
. QB. Virginia Tech. Michael Vick . 27
