player. 46. Nowadays most people remember Bubba Smith less for his football accomplishments and more for his unforgettable role as the giant Hightower from the Policy Academy movies. They may be surprised to know that before he struck fear in the hearts of criminals on the big screen, he did the same thing to full grown offensive linemen in the NFL. There was a time in the late 1960s and early 1970s where he was one of the best defensive ends in the game. <p> </p> <p>As a leader of the Baltimore Colts defense, he was a catalyst for their success in 1970 when the team made it back to the Super Bowl. His outstanding game in the AFC championship, in which he had two sacks was a perfect example of how dominant he was at the time. A two-time Pro Bowler, he earned a ring that season to cement his place as one of the best in franchise history and well worth the pick they used on him in 1967.</p>. DE. Michigan State.
