49. It’s really difficult to place Paul Hornung because he had such a checkered career. On the one hand he was a tremendous running back who was also a solid kicker. At the same time his numbers aren’t all that impressive, due in large part to sharing the football with fellow Hall of Fame backfield mate Jim Taylor. Then there is also the fact that he was banned from the league for an entire year due to gambling on NFL games. <p> </p> <p>At the end of the day there is no denying he was a great player. He helped the Green Bay Packers win four of their five championships in the 1960s and was perhaps one of the most versatile athletes to ever play the game. He wasn’t perfect and made bad decisions, but there is no arguing with what he was able to accomplish. Perhaps if he’d done a few things differently he might be considered one of the best ever today.</p>. HB. Norte Dame. Paul Hornung . 13. player
