Michigan. Jake Long . 20. player. 59. Drafting Jake Long proved to be the right decision from the very start for the Miami Dolphins. He made the Pro Bowl that 2008 season and the team made the playoffs. For a good four-year stretch there was no doubt he was one of the best offensive tackles in the game. Not only big and nimble as a pass protector, but also a brute in the running game. Part of why the Wildcat offense worked so well at that time was because he blocked for it.

He would’ve been higher on this list had his body not betrayed him. From 2012 onward it was one debilitating injury after another. Long tried to gut it out but his play began to suffer and soon he was forced to leave Miami. He’s become a journeyman the past few years but hasn’t come close to the form he exhibited during his early years. Another sad case of a potential Hall of Fame career being snuffed out by the violence of the game.
. OT
