Reckless Dallas Cowboys Roster Decisions Now Haunting Them
By Erik Lambert
This was supposed to be their year, but piece by piece the Dallas Cowboys are watching their already questionable defense fall apart.
The thing is they have nobody but themselves to blame for it. Jerry Jones always made it clear that he’s not afraid of being a gambler when it comes to his teams’ roster. He operates under the notion that one does not find great players without taking risks. There is some truth to that, but it must be clarified that good things never come when too many of these types of players are brought aboard. Doing so risks them letting the team down at the worst possible time with their poor decision-making.
That is exactly what’s happening.
Randy Gregory
Taken in the 2nd round of the 2015 draft, he was inundated with red flags due both to his failed a drug test for marijuana at the scouting combine and either arriving late or not showing at all to some of his scheduled meetings. Sure enough he was slapped with a four-game suspension for violating league policy on drugs.
Greg Hardy
Viewed from almost every media outlet as an abuser of women who managed to avoid conviction for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, the Cowboys nonetheless signed the former Pro Bowler. Rumors soon came out that he was a handful in the locker room and seemed more interested in partying during the season than working hard. He allowed to leave for free agency.
Demarcus Lawrence
He was an athletic pass rusher for Boise State but he was also suspended three different times in two seasons for various undisclosed violations. He has since earned a four-game suspension from the NFL for using amphetamines.

He’s had problems ever since he got to the pros. He was arrested in 2011 for assault. In 2013 he was arrested twice, once for providing a false name during a traffic stop and another for disorderly conduct. Then last year he was suspended four games for substance abuse violation and has since earned a 10-game ban for doing it again.
One can understand the Dallas Cowboys for being a team that likes to provide second chances to talented young man who maybe just made a bad decision at one point. These guys however have a history of problems dating back years. It was hard not to see something like this coming. Now the defense is in disarray and Super Bowl hopes that were already shaky look dimmer than ever. Perhaps this will teach the team a lesson for the future.
Taking risks on players is fine, but there has to be a limit.
