Sheldon Richardson Only Gets One Game Suspension
The ineptitude of Roger Goodell and the NFL continues with the absolutely ridiculous one game suspension of New York Jets lineman Sheldon Richardson.
First, let’s recap what Richardson did. Over a year ago, Richardson was involved in a 143-mph police chase, which included marijuana, a loaded semi-automatic weapon, and (worst of all) a 12-year old CHILD in the fleeing vehicle.
One game for all of that. One, measly meaningless game against the Bengals. Richardson is a repeat offender throughout his football career, and Goodell hands down one of the worst suspensions I have ever seen.
The fact Brady will be sitting out four games for something he was never found guilty of, and Richardson will only miss one is absolutely the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen come out of the NFL.
I’ve written about this case twice over the past 10 months: The first was me calling for Richardson’s suspension after two months of no reaction from the league, and the second just over a month ago berating Goodell for taking over a year to address this issue while he spent millions of dollars protecting himself from Deflategate and the Ray Rice fiasco.
This is yet another abhorrent miscarriage of justice coming out of Park Ave in New York.
At the same time, Johnny Manziel, who is not on a team and probably never will be, received four games for his continued misconduct.
While I believe Manziel has done everything warranted of a four game suspension, I can not fathom how Richardson’s actions were not rated on the same level as Manziel.
The definition of failure is the omission of expected or required action. If this lackadaisical joke of a suspension is not the second definition of failure, I don’t know what is.
Just as I have said over the course of a year, Roger Goodell is putting deflated footballs above the reckless endangerment of a minor, and the league should have his head.
Forget the money he brings in. That is all that is keeping him in the league offices.
Not just that, but he all but endorsed Sheldon Richardson while damning Tom Brady, Adrian Peterson, and Robert Mathis among so many others who have been his victims.
Shame on you, Roger Goodell.
