Denver Broncos expecting big things from Adam Gotsis
The Denver Broncos are setting expectations high for defensive lineman Adam Gotsis, a player many thought was a ‘reach’ in the 2nd round…
One selection on day two of the NFL Draft that had many scouring the internet for more information was the Denver Broncos’ selection of Adam Gotsis, a defensive lineman out of Georgia Tech.
Gotsis, who became the highest drafted Australian-born player ever into the NFL, was hand-picked by Broncos defensive line coach Bill Kollar, who was allegedly pacing the room, imploring the front office to give him the opportunity to coach Gotsis.
While confusing initially, it’s not difficult to see what the Broncos like about Gotsis, even though compared to his peers, he’s relatively new to American rules football.
After suffering a season-ending injury last season, Gotsis flew under the radar. He was only able to do interviews prior to the draft, and the Broncos had apparently seen enough on tape that they felt he was worthy of being their top replacement option for Malik Jackson, who signed a massive free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
At the time of the draft, Gotsis even earned comparisons to Jackson and now Broncos teammate Derek Wolfe by scouts Todd McShay and Daniel Jeremiah. The guys who do the deep digging felt like the Broncos had made a great selection, even though most people felt like it was a reach.
Upon further review, there were teams reportedly ready to select Gotsis in the third round, long before the Broncos were schedule to pick again. Armed already with nine selections, the Broncos didn’t feel like trading down and risking losing out on their guy, so they picked him in the second round.

Gotsis has been slowly but surely recovering from his knee surgery, and is expected to be ready to at least start doing some light work at the start of training camp later in July.
The coaching staff is eager to work with him, as he’s a physical specimen that combines power, strength, size, quickness, and a toughness that can’t be ignored. The Broncos feel like he has a chance to be an immediate starter in their scheme, but they won’t rush him back to the field.
The expectations for Gotsis are high in Denver being a second round pick, but perhaps even higher considering the shoes he has to fill of Jackson.
