#2:  Bill Belichick (New England Patriots)

It’s sad that his reputation is stained to a degree these days by two separate scandals that involved cheating because Bill Belichick is such an incredibly good coach.  He’s one of the best defensive minds in NFL history, crafting some of the most amazing game plans that shut down historically great offenses and has made a dynasty out of a franchise in the salary cap era.  He became just the second coach to ever reach six Super Bowls and the second coach to win four.  To think he did it all with perhaps the fewest Hall of Fame players is further proof of his greatness.

At age 64, Belichick has had one losing season since taking over the Patriots in 2000, and it was his first.  Since 2003 he has never posted fewer than 10 wins and won a staggering 13 division titles.  This isn’t even counting the two rings he won as a coordinator with the Giants.  There is no argument that he is the best head coach of the modern and knocking on the door for being the best ever.  That will depend on whether he can get one more ring before he finally starts to slow down.

Love him or hate him, the man deserves respect.
