The Green Bay Packers are always great at finding talent, and might have found a gem in UDFA safety Marwin Evans of Utah State…
There aren’t many teams in the NFL better at scouting talent that fits their system than the Green Bay Packers, and you can add rookie safety Marwin Evans to the list of players that have upside to make an impact.
The Packers used a third round pick this year on Utah State linebacker Kyler Fackrell, and after a tryout with the Seattle Seahawks, they signed his college teammate Evans to an undrafted rookie contract.

When you talk about freakish athletes, Evans fits the bill. He’s 6-0, 212 pounds, which is ideal for a safety in this league, but he also runs incredibly well. He posted a 4.47 at Utah State’s pro day, and added 19 reps on the bench press and a jaw-dropping 42-inch vertical jump.
Those kind of numbers stand out to NFL scouts, but Evans wasn’t hotly recruited after the draft. He wasn’t hotly recruited out of high school in the state of Wisconsin, either, receiving an offer from Wisconsin but winding up at a community college in Rochester, MN.
His journey ultimately took him from the state of Wisconsin to Minnesota, then to Kansas, and finally to Utah where he had a big senior season. He finished the year with 73 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, five pass breakups, and an interception returned 90 yards for a touchdown against Boise State.

His production as a senior wasn’t enough to get him drafted, but the numbers combined with his athletic testing certainly got the attention of NFL scouts, and he’s already had a shot with two NFL teams so far in Seattle and Green Bay.
Playing in Green Bay has got to be a dream come true for the Milwaukee native, who is used to bouncing around trying to find an opportunity. The preseason is going to be absolutely critical for him, but the athletic ability and skills are there for him to make an impact at a minimum on special teams and to get noticed by the coaching staff in that regard.
The Packers have solid depth across the board in the secondary, but Evans possesses a very unique set of skills. Hopefully, he can be one of the next best undrafted gems in this league.
