Every NFL offseason, numerous free agents are overpaid as below average teams for some reason believe they’re one player away from being a true contender. While these deals may be a good way to sell a few jerseys and excite a fan base for about a week, these moves rarely make a big impact on the team’s record.
Meanwhile the true contenders for the Lombardi Trophy, just as they typically do in the NFL Draft, wait for the real value to fall into their laps. They don’t treat the opening of free agency like a second Christmas and would rather make headlines on the field.
The defenders on this list are far from the top 10 free agents available after the 2016 NFL season. What they are is a group of talented players who are set to be very good value signings next offseason. A few are in line for big deals, but many are going to receive large increases in pay without breaking the bank.
