Derrick Mitchell Jr. (JR)

6-1, 215

Mitchell played in 11 games last year for the Hawkeyes and touched the ball a total of 40 times, 25 carries out of the backfield and 15 catches.

The former wide receiver transitioned to running back in the Spring last year, and his continued development could be a great asset for Iowa in case of injury or just as an additional third down back.

Mitchell was recruited as an ‘athlete’ by the Hawkeyes, playing a little defense as well as quarterback, running back, and wide receiver in high school. He is someone I would like  to see more of with the ball in his hands, and he’s in line for more touches this year unless a freshman steps up from beneath him on the depth chart.
