If you could script the ideal running game for Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa Hawkeyes, it might have looked something like what we saw from the team in 2015. The Hawkeyes were as balanced and aggressive on offense as I have seen, and Kirk Ferentz’s generally conservative nature was masked a bit by an overachieving running game and the flexibility at quarterback to take more risks.

The running game, however, was a major key in Iowa’s 12-0 start to last season, and it all had to do with the depth at the position.

Armed with excellent depth yet again, the Hawkeyes return a total of 23 rushing touchdowns from last year’s squad, including 15 from 1A and 1B runners LeShun Daniels and Akrum Wadley.

C.J. Beathard ranked fourth on the team last season with six rushing touchdowns, and former wide receiver Derrick Mitchell added another pair.
