Chip Kelly has never been one for the media. Let me rephrase that. Chip Kelly has never been one for people. It became clear when he came into the NFL from Oregon that he was not the kind of guy who will be the life of the party.
That’s ok. The guy is committed to his work and loves football, right?
Yes. Chip Kelly loves football and he would rather be drawing up quadruple options than standing in-front of “non-football guys” from the media asking him questions he finds either humorous or downright ridiculous.
He was notorious in Philadelphia for being smug and providing great, yet sometimes awkward, one liners and bouts with the NFL’s most hard-pressing media.
While the San Francisco media certainly doesn’t appear to pack the same punch as Philly, Chip continues to pull out his smug, back-handed comments that either leaves you laughing or downright pissed off.
This week, Chip came out with another one of his classic, smug responses to a legitimate question posed during a press conference.
"Question: What has been the biggest difference between Philadelphia and San Francisco and your job here compared to there?Chip Kelly: “The ocean is on the other side. The ocean was on the right in Philadelphia, now it’s on the left. I don’t feel I’m different. Ask the coaches who are with me now and were with me before.”"
Classic. Isn’t he a hoot?
In all fairness, I used to love the way Chip turned away stupid questions or brought dry, sarcastic humor to a typically dull press conference. I for one love dry humor, so as an Eagles fan his personality originally grew on me. After he turned the roster into a pile of brown matter, he quickly was on thin ice with me.
Enjoy him San Francisco!
